This is your next Netflix binge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Have you seen the new Netflix show called Tidying Up?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The title caught my attention as I was lazying around on New Year\u2019s Day. I was one of the millions of people who read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo a couple of years ago. &nbsp;I had to check out the show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watching Marie work her simple method on real-life people makes this one of those rare instances where the TV\/movie version is better than the book. Who knew that watching people clean up the mess that is their homes could be so intriguing?! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And P.S., this isn\u2019t a new take on the show Hoarders. The homes in this show are messy the way I think most of our homes are, which makes it a ton more relatable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t read the book or seen the show, the super short way to explain it is that it\u2019s about cleaning your home by determining whether each item \u201csparks joy\u201d for you. As the show demonstrates, the process and the end result are emotional, and indeed, life-changing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What really struck me about the pattern I saw repeated in the episodes is just how similar it is to becoming financially fit: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The motivation to try a new way is the same: the pervasive stress and discomfort that looms in the background every day due to the chaos. <\/li><li>The same mix of anxiety and excitement about getting started.<\/li><li>The \u201cOh SH*T!\u201d moment of awareness at the beginning.<\/li><li>The choice of what stays vs what goes comes down to a person\u2019s own values. No one is being told by \u201can expert\u201d what to choose. <\/li><li>People realize that the work is not as bad as they feared (though it\u2019s still work). <\/li><li>The huge relief, like a weight being lifted, when the process is complete. The experience of calm and freedom. <\/li><li>People change (and their relationships change) in unexpected and delightful ways.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our methods aren\u2019t exactly the same but I feel that my role in getting someone financially fit is much more like Marie Kondo and \u201csparking joy\u201d than Suze Orman and her infamous Suze smackdowns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My hope is that you become inspired to \u201cspark joy\u201d with your money, and allow me the honor of helping you do so.
