No need to fight for this freedom

By July 5, 2016No Comments

Let’s play a post 4th of July word association game that might blow your mind.
It’s quick but powerful.
Ready?
What words do you associate with 4th of July?
Fireworks. Freedom. Independence.
Duh.
What words do you associate with financial goals?
Freedom. Independence.
These are what I hear over and over — people want financial freedom and financial independence.
OK stick with me because this is more than just a clever way to associate yesterday’s holiday with the subject of money. It could be what stops you dead in your tracks from becoming great with money.
Let’s go one step deeper with the word associations for freedom and independence.
What words are associated with “freedom” and “independence?”
I cherish and value these words and what they mean so incredibly much BUT if I’m being totally honest I also think of “fight,” “fear,” “war,” “struggle,” “pain,” and even “death.”
That’s because freedom and independence have historically been won this way.
I can’t think of a single scenario where people strolled upon or stumbled into freedom and independence.
So here’s the point: It’s possible that on some level, you believe “freedom” and “independence” require waging war. War is frightening and difficult even for the winner, and victory is never promised. If that’s the case, then it’s no wonder you would resist achieving financial freedom or financial independence.

The great, albeit counter intuitive, news is that financial freedom and independence doesn’t even require you to break a sweat. It’s just a few simple workshops and some follow through.
