Who the heck are we to tell you what to do?
Especially when it comes to something as personal as your hard earned dinero?!
Good question. In case you don’t already know the answer, here it is:
The Financially Fit Foundation was started in 2011 by my mom, Olivia Galicia Glauber. She’s got quite the rags-to-riches story. She was born to parents who never went to school and in a dirt-floor home with a cardboard roof.
She came to the U.S. from Mexico when she was eleven and didn’t know a word of English. An eager student, with a love for numbers, she excelled in math. (Fun fact: she has a seriously strange love of algebra.) She graduated from Los Angeles High School.
When I was 10 (and my sister was 7) she graduated from Cal State LA with a B.S. in Business Administration & Accounting and a minor in Economics. She passed the Certified Public Accountant’s exam in 1994 although is not a CPA. She chose not to complete the required auditing hours and instead opted to be self employed.
While she wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing the extent of her financial achievement, we’ll just say that it’s remarkable. She lives a dance-filled, jet-setting lifestyle. More impressively, it has been stable and steadily growing even in times of economic downturn.
Everything we teach is based on knowledge she acquired in college, by managing her own finances (which includes our homes, her buildings, and a law firm for seventeen years), reading financial books, talking to experts, ongoing classes and what she learned from observing an amazing and incredible woman, my abuela.
She has broken the cycle of poverty, made a lot of money, raised children and has all the permission in the world to just chill out because she has “made it.” But she has taught me that you haven’t really made it if you stop at your own happiness. Contribution is the real measure of a rich and fulfilled life. Teaching people how to clean up their financial mess, showing them how to stop living paycheck-to paycheck, and guiding them to solid financial footing is her dream.
Here’s to your dream financial story.
By your side,
Chelsea
P.S. As her daughter (ie. her toughest critic) I’ve tested and at times rebelled against her practices, thinking my little smart lawyer-self could do things better my way, with the more technologically advanced ways that she was “out of touch” with. I’m sure you can guess how that went. I’m now the workshop leader and loudest advocate of her system and philosophy.
