Need motivation to manage your money? (It’s right here)

By April 17, 2015No Comments

You know what to do.

You are working through any remaining emotional blocks to money.

There’s only one more thing you need: the right reason for getting financially fit.

What’s the right reason? To be your personal best.

(It sounds simple – and frankly almost lame – but hear me out.)

Any other reason and you’ll look for things outside of you to keep you motivated to handle your money.

External motivation is not the answer. There’s no amount of approval by others, promise of status, or hope of favorable appearance in the eyes of others that will make you stick with the program.

Only the desire to be your best self will be strong enough motivation for long-term follow thru.

(For short-term follow thru I recommend a nagging mother… it worked wonders for me. Love you mom! 🙂

Nagging, berating, even high-energy cheerleading are short-term motivators only. They might work for a while but the only real long-term solution is a commitment you make and keep with yourself to be the best you that is possible. In other words, the key is to be internally motivated.

Even my mom’s nagging only worked for about 6 months. Luckily by then, the habits had started to take hold and now I actually feel off-balance when I’ve let a few weeks pass without sitting down to manage my money.

So once you’ve found your internal motivation, practice what you’ve learned in the workshops consistently. Then slowly but surely, day by day and week by week, these habits will become second nature to you.

And then your mom can find someone else to nag 😉
